DRAFT, NOT LEGAL ADVICE. This text is a working draft and must be reviewed by a qualified lawyer (Pakistan, plus any country where we take customers) before launch. Last edited 19 Oct 2026.

Shutdown & Continuity Policy

Several legacy services have closed and left families without their recordings. Our promise is that if TellingStars ever closes, you will not lose what you recorded.

Our commitments (draft)

  1. Download anytime. On every plan, including free, you can download your videos (MP4), your page (PDF) and your data (JSON/CSV) yourself, at any time, without contacting us.
  2. Advance notice. If we decide to close, we will email every account holder and their named trusted contacts at least [90] days before anything is switched off.
  3. Download window. During that notice period, all exports stay available and we will send each user a direct download link.
  4. Prepaid storage. For any "forever" plan, we intend to set aside part of each payment in a separate storage reserve so that recordings can be kept online or handed over [MECHANISM TO BE DESIGNED WITH A LAWYER/ACCOUNTANT].
  5. Successor or handover. If another organisation takes over, we will only transfer your data if it agrees to this policy, and you will be told first and given the option to delete instead.
  6. Sealed pages. For pages set to open after death, we will try to deliver them to your named recipients before shutdown, following your instructions, or give your trusted contacts the download.
  7. Offline copy. We encourage every family to keep an offline copy (USB, printed book with QR codes). TellingStars should never be the only place your memories live.
  8. No sale of recordings. Recordings will never be sold, and they will never be used to train AI models that imitate you.

Numbers in [brackets] are placeholders pending legal and financial review.
